Having light, breatheable, airy clothing is EVERYTHING to me right now.

Having light, breatheable, airy clothing is EVERYTHING to me right now.

“Out of all the clothes in my closet, your clothes are the only ones I can tolerate on my skin anymore!  I've just started going through menopause. Having light, breatheable, airy clothing is EVERYTHING to me right now.” PaoLin Chi, customer.

This heartfelt comment hit my inbox recently and it really resonated with me and my own experience. It also made me wonder about the hundreds of thousands of other women out there that struggle with the symptoms from ‘being a certain age’ - perimenopause and menopause.

That feeling of a volcano slowly erupting to the surface as the heat and pressure rises within your chest can leave you gasping for air and as clammy as a warm damp face cloth. From my own experience, it can be extremely unpleasant and after seven years of hoping it will all go away, I don’t feel any closer to feeling the end of it. Boo hoo!

Clothes therefore, have to be lightweight, roomy and be able to layer as our temperature swings like a pendulum inside a Grandmother clock. Naturally cool and light fabrics are the only ones I can tolerate, just like in the comment from our friend above.

If you’ve ever tried one of our wrap skirts, single or double layer, you’ll know the floaty feeling not only makes you feel pretty, but can be cooling too. In winter, leggings or thick tights underneath will help when the temperature really drops, but bare legs with boots is airy freedom. Add a short sleeve top layered with a light cardigan when needed and you’ll soon begin to feel a little less constricted and less of a melting mess.

While it’s been super hot of recent, a silky tank has been lighter than even a T shirt and has been my summer saviour.

If you struggle with fluctuating body heat, I urge you to try my suggestion and experience the freedom our garments can bring you. I’d love to hear and share your experiences if I may, they will perhaps help others.

Right, I’m off for a glass of water…and maybe a pair of baggy Aladdin pants.
